<image:title>Blog - Coffee Worx Coffee Roastery Set To Expand - Deb and Ian Riach, the founders and owners of Coffee Worx Coffee Roastery are set to expand their now well-established coffee roasting operation in Christchurch. In 2006 the Riach’s purchased a small boutique coffee roastery which they rebranded as Coffee Worx. The roastery was purchased to support the expansion of their Yellow Rocket Bagels and Coffee franchise which had three outlets, when the earthquakes decimated the chain, and they lost all three outlets in the fateful 2011 disaster. This left them with just the coffee roastery, so they picked up the pieces from the loss of their retail chain and began again by supplying their premium coffee blends to other cafes and hospitality outlets. Their long history in the coffee industry put them in a knowledgeable position to help support new entrants to hospitality and after winning several awards with their coffee blends at the NZ Coffee Awards, their fledgling business began to take flight. Alongside the flagship Coffee Worx brand, the Riach’s developed their Heartland Brew Coffee brand to supply Trents wholesale. The coffee became popular it became the first ranked coffee through Trents, so they decided to expand its distribution to New World and Pak n Save supermarkets in the South Island. Despite the hardships of the Covid era the business has continued to thrive and now they can no longer keep up with production demand as premium coffee continues to gain popularity with domestic and business users. They have taken the plunge and leased a building next to their Christchurch distribution center and bought a larger 60kg capacity roaster, which will allow further growth of their increasingly popular brand.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Coffee Worx Is Growing - Deb and Ian Riach, the founders and owners of Coffee Worx Coffee Roastery are set to expand their now well-established coffee roasting operation. The Riachs opened their Coffee Worx café and roastery in Rangiora in 2013 after expanding their 7-year-old coffee roastery from a warehouse in Christchurch to include their now popular retro industrial style café located on Blackett Street. Deb and Ian are North Canterbury locals having lived in the area since 1992 when they purchased and ran their first hospitality business, a luxury lodge in Okuku. The couple loved the rural lifestyle and decided to stay when they sold Okuku Country Lodge in 2005. It was in 2006 the Riachs returned to the coffee industry with the purchase of a small boutique coffee roastery which they rebranded as Coffee Worx. Their history in the coffee industry as the original founding partners of Coffee Culture put them in a knowledgeable position to help support new entrants to the industry and after winning several awards with their coffee blends at the NZ Coffee Awards, their fledgling business began to take flight. Alongside the flagship Coffee Worx brand, the Riachs developed their Heartland Brew Coffee brand to supply Trents foodservice group. The coffee became popular with many small businesses because of its premium quality at a very reasonable price and it became the first ranked coffee through Trents, so they decided to expand its distribution to New World and Pak n Save supermarkets in the South Island. Despite the hardships of the Covid era the business has continued to thrive and now they can no longer keep up with production demand as their 1 kg bags of Heartland Brew continue to gain popularity with domestic and business users. They have taken the plunge and leased a building next to their Christchurch distribution center and bought a larger 60kg capacity roaster, which is currently being commissioned. This will mean a lot less roasting at their Rangiora site, but their fresh roasted coffee will continue to be roasted and offered in store.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - How to Make Good Coffee While Camping - I have a few suggestions of how to quickly and simply keep up your daily ritual when away from home and ensure that your caffeine cravings are met!</image:title>
<image:caption>Our Heartland brew coffee is a must to take on holiday with you. You can buy it at selected supermarkets and farm shops or direct from us online in 1kg foil bags either as beans or pre-ground, so you will have enough to last through your holiday without worrying where to get supplies from. The coffee will stay fresh in the bag, as long as you seal it after each use with a peg or bag closer to keep the air out. If you like the strong taste of espresso, one of the easiest ways to make it on holiday is with a Stovetop. These handy little espresso makers only need some type of heat source like a camp stove and you will have very good espresso in no time. If you still like to grind fresh, you can buy good hand grinders that are easy to pack with your kitchen equipment and if you are the only coff-a-holic at camp, you can also buy a personal one cup drip filter for a simple morning fix.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Make Good Coffee While Camping - Hand grinder, one cup drip filter and a stove top espresso However, if you are hard core lightweight campers you may just want to make camp coffee, see instructions below:</image:title>
<image:caption>emove the pot from heat and let it sit for about 30 seconds. Add coarsely ground coffee (about 8 grams per cup) and stir. Wait for a crust to form on the surface and then settle it back into the liquid by stirring (this will take about 5 mins). Pour coffee, being careful not to let the grounds sneak into your camp mug.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Espresso Grind or Filter Grind - Have you ever wondered what is the difference between espresso grind and filter grind? How do I know which grind to use for my different coffee making equipment? Here are a few tips to help you when you are purchasing coffee from the supermarket and there is no-one to ask. There are several methods of brewing coffee at home. Some are steeping methods eg. Plunger/French press, Drip Filter, Soft Brew etc. and some are pressure methods eg. Stovetop, Espresso machine, Vacuum brewer, Percolator. The steeping methods involve the coffee oils being drawn out with water and require the coffee to be more coarsely ground so that the end product is clear and not “sludgy” and that the water can access the grounds without too much resistance. The pressure methods require the coffee to be finer, as these methods require a build up of pressure which means the coffee grounds have to create resistance in the brewing process. Usually there will be an indication on the packet as to the grind either espresso or fine grind, or filter or course grind. If you are purchasing beans and grinding them yourself, you can play around until you get the right result for the method you are using. The quantity of coffee required of coursely ground coffee is approximately 16 grams for each 240ml cup and 8 grams of finely ground coffee per 30mls (single shot) of espresso coffee. All of our Heartland Brew blends are available to purchase from selected supermarkets and distributors as coffee beans and espresso or fine grind. If only beans are available and you would like us to grind them then please pop into our roastery cafe in Rangiora where we will be only too pleased to bring them for you free of charge or alternatively they can be purchased online as either beans or ground. Don’t forget to tag us in your Instapics enjoying your very own cup of Heartland Brew Coffee, @heartlandbrew #heartlandbrewnz</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Heartland Brew Coffee Now Available Online and In Stores - We, the owners of Coffee Worx, (a Canterbury based coffee roastery) have developed a Brand of premium coffee that is now widely available through supermarkets and selected cafes throughout the South Island called Heartland Brew. Having been in the coffee industry for 20 plus years, it became obvious that there is a breed of coffee drinkers, who just like to keep it simple. Great, high quality coffee, brewed for the kiwi palate and reflecting the simple gift of the pleasure of a great coffee, in our amazing New Zealand surroundings. Heartland Brew came out of a desire to see these down to earth coffee drinkers not only drinking our outstanding coffee at home, but also taking it with them to their favourite destinations while on holiday, fishing, tramping and generally enjoying the great outdoors. Our Forest Floor blend is a fully organic fair trade coffee. All of our coffee blends are roasted at our café roastery in Rangiora from 100% Arabica coffee and each blend is roasted to create a different flavour profile to suit our range of palates. Why not try a few, as they are all uniquely crafted for different times of the day and different experiences. They are available to purchase as coffee beans, or ground for filter or espresso in our online store or at selected supermarkets, in the South Island.
